What do we mean by ‘good handwriting’ ?

Teachers often cite to ‘good handwriting’. It is important to interpret what the qualities of good handwriting. There are three broad program goals: 

1. Fluency: Fluency is the ability to carry out the motor movements needed for handwriting smoothly, easily, comfortably and readily.

2. Legibility: Legibility is the simplicity with which the reader (and the writer) can recognize the handwriting on the page and is directly related to how well formed the letters are.

3. Speed: Speed is the pace at which handwriting is produced in relation to a student’s developmental stage.
